Road Tripping Redux
Maxwell Game Preserve...somewhere around Canton, Kansas. Not much winter access to the buffalo, elk, etc. which reside there year around. They do have this viewing tower and beings as Kansas is pretty flat you get a great view...lots of buffalo! This picture is of Daniel and Becky motioning me to come up. "It's hardly cold at all!"
It was fricken' freezing...taking the "wind chill factor" (that one was for you Daniel) into consideration, it was about as almost as cold as Kenneth Starr's heart!
We saw a couple of elk bedded down in a draw so we stopped the truck and Becky got out...they scattered! It turns out there were probably 10 to 15 where we had seen maybe 4! We learned at the Wichita Zoo that elk are naturally a flat lands animal. They reside in the mountains now mostly because they have been driven off their native plains.
Buffalo everywhere...we must have seen hundreds just from driving in and climbing the tower! These bad boys once ranged over all of North America, from the Yukon Territories to Mexico, from Maine to California...amazing to see them in the natural setting! Hooray!
