Last Day in Kansas
The weather was really lovely for our whole stay at Daniel's, cold at night, sunny with some wind in the daytime. If you could get out of the wind it was truly lovely! And so it was on our last day in Kansas.
The legendary "Red Bike"...I'd seen pictures of this red devil but I'm here to tell you it is a piece of art to see in person...it is simply beautiful! With the weather being so kind Daniel rolled the bike from the garage and cleaned it up a bit.
I continue to learn things about Becky that amaze me. She has never "hung out" on the tailgate of a truck before. ("Will it hold both of us?") We were standing, talking to Daniel as he cleaned the bike and so I dropped the tailgate of his truck to have a place to sit while chatting...Becky had never done this and was pleased as could be to take part in one of the fundamental joys of American life...here she is being either Lana Turner or Joan Crawford in her new sunglasses.
Daniel has had to order new pads for the disc brakes on the front wheel of the bike...even with this necessity at less than optimum he couldn't resist taking it for a spin...I can certainly understand the call...sometime's a person has just "gotta ride!"
We loaded into the truck for one last ride, this time to Daniel's job...Cessna. This is inside of the testing facility where they see how the aircraft will respond to their ideas...a VERY fun place! Lots of toys for big boys :-)
Apparently this test was going too slowly so Daniel thought he would hang from the superstructure surrounding the plane's wing...I moved away and pretended I didn't know him. I fully expected lights and sirens and for the wing to collapse...guess he knew better, it seemed no worse for the added stress.
The inside of the Citation X...the project that Daniel has been working on so long and hard and the last business jet developed by Cessna so far. We are in the final inspection area for planes almost ready for delivery. These planes are truly beautiful. It's hard to tell from this photo because everything is covered but this interior is all natural, polished woods and leather.
The tail section of a CitationJet 525 bound for Romania. I took this shot for two reasons; I liked the paint job (the photo doesn't do it credit) and the fact that contrary to popular beliefs, SOMEONE in Romania is making a great deal of money!
That's it, that's the end of the trip...from here Daniel took us to the airport and we had another series of uneventful flights home.
Summation: Kansas, a good place to visit. A wonderful time was had by both Becky and myself and we look forward to returning. We have much yet to see!
